Words can't express how much we will miss you, Grandma Bernitta. Rey remarked the day mom called that you had passed, that he had just seen you at the store and you were your usual feisty and go getter self. We really appreciated how well you treated our kids, you were not step grandma or step great grandma you were Grandma to us, just like our other Grandmas. RJ still remembers the winter you let him and his sister stay at your house, and that you called almost every day from Florida to talk to him and his sister on the phone. He remembers having some of his birthday parties at your house with Papa Alan. When we lost our Grandma Florence you spent all day with the family at the funeral home with mom and Al. Grandma Bernitta, you had the kindest heart. this is what we will miss the most. We are so sorry we were unable to attend the funeral or even visit the funeral home, due to Char's work schedule and unable to get time off from work. But our sympathy to all the Smeltzer family for your loss. You will be very much missed.

Because of my work schedule, and already putting in for vacation to go see my mom (Nadine) and step dad (Alan) later in July, we were unable to attend the funeral. Seth will really miss his great grandma "Alan." His special name for grandma Bernitta, that he gave her when he was very little. Every time we visited Seth made sure he reminded us he needed to go visit grandma "Alan." Grandma "Alan" attended many of our family gatherings, almost every Easter holiday that she was home in time from Florida, several Christmas gatherings when she did not go to Florida and almost all of the birthday parties for Papa Alan and RJ. She got a big kick out of our annual Christmas Bingo that Nana (grandma Nadine) put on for the kids. Our family has lots of special memories of her. She always treated my sister Char, myself and our kids not like the "step kids", but like part of her family. We will miss you dearly, Grandma "Alan."

So sorry to hear this news. Bernitta was always so friendly and nice, when we saw her through the years. It was fun to sit by her and chat. God Bless all of you. Our sincere sympathy.
