Susan Kay Anderson Obituary
Susan Kay Anderson – of Chesaning, passed away at the Medilodge of Montrose on June 7, 2024, following a lengthy illness. She was 76 years of age. Sue was born in Flint, Michigan, on June 15, 1947, to the late Ward J. and Hazel M. (Hurrell) Anderson. Sue was a 1965 graduate of Chesaning Union Schools.
Sue had a long career of supporting individuals with disabilities, including work as an aide for young children with learning disabilities in Lawndale, CA, managing group homes for individuals with intellectual disabilities in Upland, CA, and working with Jay Nolan Community Services as a group home Program Manager for individuals with autism in Reseda, CA. During that time, Sue was instrumental in the development and initiation of the Supported Apartment Program. Sue also worked for Saginaw Steering Gear for many years before moving to California.
Her love of art was demonstrated by her photography, work as a painter for “Sarah’s Attic” figurines, and unique greeting cards made in her basement studio. She adored animals and spent years taking care of friend’s pets. Her beloved dogs Barney, Brandi, and Joey were her family members.
Sue is survived by her sister: Jacki Anderson (George Kuria) of Alameda, California; brothers: Dan (Patty Morse) Anderson of Leesburg, Florida, and Mark (Ann) Anderson of Rock Island, Illinois; nephews: Mark Anderson Jr. (Meaghan), their children Harper and Paige of Maynard Massachusetts, Ken (Angie) Acha, their children Savanna, Kole and Mason of Gunter, Texas, and Duane (Donnette) Acha, their children Amelia and Echo of Dunnellon, Florida, many cousins and friends. Sue’s life was also enriched by her cherished friendship with Sandy and Don Turnwald.
The family extends its sincere appreciation to the staff at the Medilodge of Montrose for the care provided to Sue during the final months of her life. Per Sue’s wishes, cremation will occur and no visitation or memorial service.
