Shirlee (Buscha) Sulen

Shirlee Sulen (Buscha), beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away surrounded by the love of her family. Her life was defined by hard work, creativity, and a deep devotion to caring for others.

Born and raised in Chesaning, she graduated from Chesaning Union High School in 1964, before continuing her education at the Saginaw Business Institute, completing her secretary training in 1965. She began her career at Redmond Motor Company in Owosso, serving as a secretary for an expeditor, and later worked for Universal Motor Company.

Over the years, she held many roles that reflected her dedication and versatility. She worked the switchboard at Olan Containers, assisted customers and mended garments at Gibsons Cleaners, drove a school bus, cooked at the Saginaw Juvenile Home, and served in food service and housekeeping at St. Mary’s Hospital. She also worked as a cashier at Sunshine Food Store, cleaned homes, and provided babysitting for families to make ends meet. She loved Home Interiors and joined their sales team where she was a part of a fantastic group of women. In 1990–1991, she achieved top sales honors with Home Interiors, a testament to her warm personality and natural ability to connect with people. In her later years, she traveled to craft shows, proudly selling the handmade creations into which she poured her heart.

Her joys in life were simple, beautiful, and deeply rooted in creativity. She loved gardening, especially the taste of homegrown green beans and tomatoes. Her flower beds were filled with her favorites — pink tea roses and tulips. She delighted in decorating, crafting wreaths from real and artificial pine, and designing charming birdhouses. Sewing was her lifelong passion; she stitched everything from towels to wedding dresses, each piece made with care and skill.

She will be remembered for her hard-working spirit, resourcefulness, and talent to make something beautiful with the simple things around her. She always knew when we needed to laugh and lift your spirits when you felt down. Her legacy lives on in the family she loved, the homes she brightened, and the handmade treasures she leaves behind. She was the light of life for many and will be missed by all.

She was forever grateful for the love and support she received from Don, Paula, Katie, Lorrie, and Pattie after she was diagnosed with kidney failure.

Family members that she has been reunited with are Cami Sulen (daughter), Arlene and John Stopjik (parents), Charlie Stopjik (brother), and Chloe (dog).

She leaves behind her greatest companion, Sadie “Sue Bear”; her daughter Ami and Jeff (husband), and their children: Connor and his wife Andrea, and Tristan; her son Marvin and his children: Remmington, Mia, Griffin, and Mason; and her great grandchildren Spencer Lee, Scarlett and Sterling Fitzgerald; and her siblings: Don and his wife Paula, Barbara Hickson, and Dan Stopjik.

No services are planned at this time. Inurnment will be in Griffus Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity or pay it forward at a local grocery store or restaurant.
