Robert J. Giesken Obituary

GIESKEN, Robert J. – of Chesaning, died Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at Michigan Medicine Hospital in Ann Arbor.  He was 69 years of age.

Robert was born in Saginaw on December 1, 1953, the son of the late L. Hugo and Muriel M. (Seaman) Giesken.  Bob lived his entire life in Chesaning and graduated from Chesaning Union High School in the Class of 1972.  He was united in marriage to Laurie Herron on July 26, 1980.

Bob had worked at Saginaw Steering Gear for 34 years.  He was a member of St. Peter Parish Catholic Church in Chesaning.  Bob was an avid biker and pickle ball player. He enjoyed spending time at his cabin in Houghton Lake with his wife and family. He was always helping out his neighbors and making his rounds in the neighborhood. He helped with the Houghton Lake trail/snow groomers association, keeping the trails immaculate. He was on a weekly traveling golf leave with all his buddies. He and Laurie loved traveling with their friends all over the country and tropical islands. Most of all he loved his wife, daughters, sons-in-law, and grandchildren. He has left a piece of him in all that knew him.

Mr. Giesken was a member of the UAW, Knights of Columbus, Houghton Lake Cycling Club, Houghton Lake Pickleball Club, Houghton Lake Trail Groomers, Houghton Lake Snowmobile Club, and the Chesaning Area Picklers.  He was also a founding member of the Sunshine Bay Dock Association.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Laurie; daughters, Lyndsay (David) Harrison of Owosso, Melissa (Andrew) Lee of Chesaning, and Chelsey (Dan) Giesken-Unser of Ellsworth, WI; grandchildren, Kendall, Landree, and Aubree Harrison, Cade, Anna, and Claire Lee, and Brett and Chase Unser; brother, Louis (Judie) Giesken of Chesaning; nieces and nephews; and other loving family and friends.  He was also preceded in death by a brother, Dennis “Bear” Giesken.
