Robert “Bob” Wright of Hazelton Twp., age 90, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 9, 2023.
Robert was born in Durand on July 25, 1933, a son of Howard and Ethel (Fischer) Wright. Bob married Helen Van Horn at her home in Shia Town on August 4, 1951. They have been married for over 72 years. Bob is an Honorably Discharged Veteran, having served in the US Army during the Korean War from 1952-55. He was attached to the 62nd Tank Battalion with the rank of Corporal in the Medical Detachment.
After his military service, Bob worked for John Deere in New Lothrop for 15 years and then Mel Ervin Ford for 26 years before retiring. He fixed tractors, combines, implements, cars, boat motors, chainsaws, and lawnmowers. Bob was self-taught. He would tear it up, tear it down, and put it together, until he got it right. He loved polka music and dancing, family, camping, fishing, and hunting.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Helen; their children, Alan (Bev) Wright and Melody (John) Kluge; son-in-law, Bruce Gross; daughter-in-law, Kay Wright, nine grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and other loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Benson Wright, William Wright, Dorothy Powell, Betty Lou Wright, and Margaret Allen; children, Michael, Ronald, Kevin, and Kelly; and grandchildren, Jason, Marc, and Trevor.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at St. Michael Maple Grove Catholic Church. Bob’s son, Deacon Al Wright, will officiate. Burial will follow later at Easton Cemetery in rural Owosso. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Tuesday at Misiuk Funeral Home of Chesaning and then Wednesday at the church from 10 a.m. until time of the funeral service.
