TITHOF, Richard G. – of Chesaning, died Saturday, March 11, 2023, at Memorial Healthcare in Owosso. He was 76 years of age.
On a blizzardly February 22, 1947, in the farmhouse of his grandmother, Mary Hayek a child was born to Rudolph and Mildred (Hayek) Tithof in Maple Grove, like his mother before him. When he was seven, the Tithof clan moved to Chesaning. Way before this high-tech world, if it’s softball, baseball, basketball or hockey season, there were always enough neighborhood kids to get a game on. Back in the day he earned money by mowing yards, shoveling snow, and pedaling papers. He spent a lot of time on his grandmas’ and his aunts’ farms baling hay and straw and throwing rock on the stone boat. Rich said if he had a penny for every bale of hay, straw, or rock he touched, he would have been a multi-millionaire. Rich went to Our Lady of Perpetual Help School for 8 years then Chesaning High School for 4 years where he graduated. He was hired into Buick, Flint in 1966 and retired with 31 years seniority. Rich married Roseann Schnieder in 1967 and Deanna was born in 1968. He remarried Catherine Schorling in 1992 and Angelique was born in 1982. Rich and Cathy started spending winters in southern Texas in 2000, beaching, fishing and shelling. Rich enjoyed golfing and fishing. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, UAW Local #599 and the Golden Gophers.
Surviving are: wife, Catherine; daughter, Deanna (Brian) Rensi of Monroe, MI; granddaughter, Marina Rensi of Monroe, MI; sisters, Cynthia (Carl) Braeutigan of Oakley and Cecelia Tithof of Chesaning; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by: parents; daughter, Angelique Tithof on March 14, 1992; brothers, Ronald Tithof on November 9, 2009 and Dennis Tithof on December 10, 2011.
Graveside prayers will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, March 18, 2023, at Resurrection Cemetery in Chesaning. Fr. Raj Bandaru officiating. Contributions in his memory may be made to the family. You may light a memorial candle or share a memory at misiukfuneralhome.com.
