Richard E. Rider

RIDER, Richard E. – of Chesaning, died Monday, September 1, 2025, at his residence. He was 77 years of age.

Dick was born January 3, 1948, in Saginaw to the late Bessmer and Florence (Bliss) Rider. He was a 1966 graduate of Chesaning and took some classes at Northwood University and Mott Community College. He was a resident of the Chesaning area most of his life except for a few years in Millington. Dick was united in marriage to Janene Cole on December 19, 1992. Mr. Rider served in the US Navy for 3 ½ years and travelled the world by sea. He had been employed by Centurytel and then retired from TDS Telephone Company in Millington. Dick attended Trinity United Methodist Church in Chesaning and Global United Methodist Church in Burt. He was a member of the Burt VFW Post. He enjoyed travelling throughout the United States, working with electronics and computers, and building computer websites. He was known to organize donations to get sleeping bags for the homeless veterans.

Surviving are: wife, Janene; children: Brian (Rowena) Rider of FL, Amy (Jay) Worden of CO; step children: Mark (Traci) Cole of Chesaning, Kelly (Greg) Campbell of Frankenmuth; grandchildren: Sarah Rider, Jacob Worden, Joshua Worden and Nikki; step grandchildren: Conner Campbell (fiancé Hailei), Bryce Campbell, Aiden Campbell, Kaitlin Cole, Mark Cole Jr., Olivia (Tony) Powell; a great-granddaughter: Nevaeh Powell; sister: Donna Croslin; brother-in-law, Jeff Cook; special friends: Ed Rogers and Barry Meiser; nieces and nephews: Shelly Cook, Wayne Cook, Chaz Croslin, Cheryl (Tim) Ware; great nieces and nephews: Chris Ware (fiancé Reuana), Brandon Ware (companion Catie Bullard), Kaitlin (Austin) Peterson; and many Bliss and Rider cousins. He was also preceded in death by: sister Marianne Cook, and a stepson Paul Cole.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am Saturday, September 6, 2025, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Chesaning. Pastor Janine Plum officiating. Military honors to follow. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 10 am until time of services. Inurnment will be at a later date. Contributions in his memory may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church or the Care Team Hospice.
