Phidora B. Johnson Obituary
Phidora B. Johnson of Harrison and formerly of New Lothrop passed away early Wednesday morning, March 25, 2020 at MediLodge of Montrose. Her age was 96 years.
Phidora was born on a snowy night in Barry County, Michigan on February 14, 1924, a daughter of the late Rev. Richard R. and Hazel M. (Foss) Terwilliger. Phidora graduated from New Lothrop High School in the Class of 1942. In 1945, she graduated from Bronson Methodist Hospital School of Nursing, Kalamazoo, Michigan. She was united in marriage to Gunnard L. Johnson in 1946.
Phidora was a Registered Nurse working as a Public Health Nurse for Genesee County, and also a Director of Nursing at the Montrose Nursing Home. Mrs. Johnson was a member of the New Lothrop Church of the Nazarene. She enjoyed quilting and sharing this passion with her friends and loved ones.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, David (Diane) Johnson of Seneca, South Carolina, Daniel (Carol) Johnson of Montrose, Mark (Karen) Johnson of Spring Hill, Tennessee, Catherine (Rev. William) Dyke of Harrison, Mary (Jimmy) Abney of Clay City, Kentucky, and Lori (Scott) Bowden of Flushing; 18 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren plus a soon expected great-grandson and great-granddaughter; one great-great-granddaughter plus another great-great-granddaughter expected soon; sister-in-law, Marjorie Gross of New Lothrop; along with several nieces and nephews. Phidora was preceded in death by her husband, Gunnard, on August 28, 2003; granddaughter-in-law, Rebecca Jo Johnson on June 13, 2019; her brother, Richard Terwilliger; her four sisters, Winifred (Charles) O’Hanisain, Eula (John) Wright, Barbara (Richard) Sweers, and Beatrice Irene (LeRoy) Starkey; and Gunnard’s two brothers, Maurice (Donna Wood) Johnson and John Gross; and his two sisters, Merial Gillette and Betty Jean (Andrew) Rushton.
A private family service has been held with burial at Elmwood Cemetery, New Lothrop.
