Myra M. (Rolfe) Reiber

REIBER, Myra M. – of Chesaning, died Thursday, September 21, 2023, at Union Court Assisted Living. She was 97 years of age.

Myra was born July 6, 1926, in Chesaning to the late Charles and Catherine (Eisenhauer) Rolfe. She was a 1944 graduate of Chesaning High School and a lifelong resident of the Chesaning area. She went to work for the Bendix Corporation in Owosso as a secretary. She was united in marriage to Howard Reiber on November 23, 1946, at Our Lady Parish in Chesaning. They celebrated 74 years of marriage until he preceded her in death on October 11, 2020. Mrs. Reiber was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church.

Myra was an accomplished seamstress and made many clothes for herself and her daughters. She was always a busy mom and kept a comfortable home, including doing her own painting and wall papering. She was a wonderful cook; many of her friends and family enjoyed a place at her table. Of particular delight were her lemon meringue pie and the best pecan pie ever. She canned strawberry jam, peaches, and tomatoes, and a variety of vegetables grown in her garden. Myra and Howard liked to travel, visiting most of the national parks in the United States, including Hawaii. They also visited the Canary Islands and the country of Poland when daughter Sue and her husband lived there. Following retirement, Myra and Howard enjoyed being snowbirds in their motorhome, staying at parks in Texas, Arizona, Florida, and California, often with Michigan friends.

Surviving are: four children: John “Jack” (Marybeth) Reiber of Chesaning, Susan (James) Winiarski of Frankenmuth, Karla (Darrell) Hensley of South Haven, Sharon Alexander of Chesaning; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; 2 step great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by: grandson, Theodore Wicke; and son-in-law, Orvil Alexander.

The family would like to thank the staff at Union Court of Chesaning and the nurses with Heart-to-Heart Hospice in Chesaning for the excellent care they provided.

Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, September 25, 2023, at St. Peter Catholic Church in Chesaning, Fr. Thomas McNamara celebrant. Burial to follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will  be held on Monday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until time of mass at 11 a.m. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Union Court Activity Fund or the Chesaning Historical Society.
