Mary Jane Love Mudar Obituary

Mary Jane Love (Parshall) Mudar passed away on April 19 at the age of 96. She was born in Corunna, Michigan, the daughter of Millis and Ruth (Gregory) Parshall. She lived in Parshallburg, Michigan, until the age of 13, when her family moved to Drayton Plains, Michigan.

Mary graduated from Harper Hospital in Detroit in 1953 with a nursing degree. She went back to college 30 years later and earned a degree in Hospital Administration from the University of Michigan. She worked as a nurse for nearly 40 years. Her last employment was at Hurley Hospital, in Flint, Michigan, where she was the head nurse of the Newborn Nursery.

On June 20, 1953, she married Joseph Mudar. They were married for over 50 years and had six children - Karen (Christopher Tudge), Marcus, Joseph, Jr. (Valerie Steer), David, Michele (Kermit Johnson), and Charlotte (Regner Trampedach).

Mary was a talented seamstress and craftsperson. She sewed, knitted, crocheted, and made tatted lace for trimming caps that she gave to her children and donated to new mothers. In later life, she took up lace making and rug hooking. She was a member of a Michigan chapter of The Questers.

Mary loved to ice skate and played in an Ann Arbor amateur hockey league on the Iron Maidens team along with daughter Michele, and played against daughter Charlotte on the Steel Magnolias team. She played until she was 70 and was the oldest player in the league.

She is preceded in death by her husband Joseph, Sr.; her son David; her parents; and siblings Delphine, David, and Millis, Jr. She is survived by five children; eight grandchildren - Alexander, Nicholas, and Maxfield Mudar; Emory and Adele Johnson; Laura and Hannah Tudge; Annelise Trampedach; and two great-grandchildren - Ava and Benjamin Mudar.

Mary loved animals and flowers and was a knowledgeable birder. In the last decade of her life she suffered from dementia and was tenderly cared for by Joseph, Jr.’s family.

Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, May 1, 2026, at St. Peter Parish Catholic Church, 404 South Wood Street, Chesaning, Michigan. Fr. Andrzej Boroch will officiate. Burial will follow at Wildwood Cemetery in Chesaning. Visitation will be Friday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until time of the Mass.
