Mary Ann Emmendorfer Obituary

Mary Ann Emmendorfer of Maple Grove died Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at Covenant Health Care-Harrison in Saginaw.  She was 94 years of age.

Mary was born in Maple Grove on September 4, 1930, a daughter of Leonard George and Hilda Mary (Wendling) Emmendorfer.  Mary was a lifelong resident of Maple Grove except for the times she was teaching and working overseas.  She graduated from St. Michael’s High School in the Class of 1948.  She continued her education and graduated from Aquinas College in 1952, and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education.  She was a lifetime  member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church and had served as a Lector for many years.

A family treasure, Mary was a beloved sister and favorite aunt to her nieces, nephews and their children and grandchildren.   She was a teacher and had traveled to Germany and the Philippines to teach the children of US Air Force families. She also did missionary work in Africa.  Mary later taught Jr. High English at New Lothrop School for many years before her retirement.

She enjoyed traveling around the world and had visited Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia and elsewhere.  She also traveled extensively throughout the USA and had participated in several Elderhostel activities at various colleges.  Over the years, she became a connoisseur of good food and wine and loved to cook for family and friends. Mary had a sharp mind and loved crossword puzzles, trivia, and playing bingo.  She was also an avid reader.

Mary is survived by her brother, Gerald (Linda) Emmendorfer of Saginaw; her sisters, Delores Kohagen of Maple Grove, Carol Sharko of Saginaw, and Diane Stikeleather of Saginaw; ten nieces and a nephew; several great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Robert and LaVern (Marlene) Emmendorfer; a sister, Rose (Thomas) Houlihan; brother-in-law, Louis Stikeleather; sister-in-law, Vivian Emmendorfer; a nephew, Christopher Kohagen; a niece, Lori Iken; and a great-niece, Barbara Renee Forbes.
