Mary A Pierson, of Saginaw, formerly of Indian River, died at Union Court Assisted Living in Chesaning Monday, November 20, 2023. She was 103 years old.
She was born in Saginaw on September 23, 1920, to Benjamin F. and Rachel Bailey Keeler. She attended Saginaw High School and Bay City Junior College. On May 31, 1941, she married John S. Pierson. They had 62 years together. She was a person of wide interests and pursued many hobbies including painting nature scenes in the Indian River area and doing exquisite counted cross-stitch and needlepoint. She was a founding member of the Embroiderers Guild of America Indian River chapter. She was also an avid quilter and especially was known for the designing and knitting of incredible sweaters with complicated patterns. She loved to tell stories of her life up north and in particular of her special take on the Mackinac Bridge. She was a member of First Congregational Church of Saginaw and later the Indian River United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her children, Nancy (Jan) Krause, of Chesaning, Jean Pierson (John Linkhart), of Oregon, Robert (Sarah) Pierson, of Wyoming and Martha Pierson, of Minnesota; grandchildren Ami Weaver, John Wilson, Tom Pierson, Matt Schultz and Mark Schultz; 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John, and her grandson Michael Krause.
Her family wishes to thank the staff of Union Court of Chesaning for the deeply personal care they unfailingly gave to “Mary P.” A private committal service will be held on Friday, Dec.1 at 11 am at Forest Hill Cemetery in Evart, Michigan.
