Madelyn R. Nelson Obituary
Madelyn R. Nelson, age 88, formerly of New Lothrop, Michigan and Green Valley, Arizona, passed away on Monday, June 17, 2024, at Oliver Woods Retirement Village in Owosso. She was born in New Lothrop on March 24, 1936, a daughter of Clare Mitchell. Madelyn graduated from New Lothrop High School and was the Valedictorian of her graduating class. She was united in marriage to Richard D. “Dick” Nelson on August 6, 1960. They were married for over 58½ years before Dick preceded her in death on April 17, 2019. Madelyn and Dick had lived in Arizona for over 30 years before she returned to Michigan after Dick’s death.
Madelyn had worked as a Payroll Office Clerk at AC Sparkplug for General Motors for 17 years. Later, she worked at Confers Grocery in New Lothrop. She had also worked for Green Valley Rentals in Arizona. At the rental agency, she worked in the office and was their receptionist. She loved to work and she enjoyed shopping for the rental agents, buying needed supplies and special gifts. In her spare time, Madelyn loved crocheting and enjoyed making afghans for everyone in her family.
Madelyn was a loving wife, and proud mother and grandmother. She is survived by her daughter, Denise (Ed) Wenzlick of New Lothrop, son, Tim (Mary) Nelson of Fenton; grandchildren, Krista (Jason) Chamberlain, Kerie (Dennis) Hughes, Eric Wenzlick, Kelly (Kevin) Knieper, Lance (Jill) Nelson and Alan Nelson; great-grandchildren, Cayden and Kellen Chamberlain, Matthew, Alex and Brayden Hughes, Alivia Wenzlick, Bryce and Brady Knieper; and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her father.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held at the First United Methodist Church in New Lothrop at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 13, 2024. Pastor Russell Logston will officiate. Her visitation will be from 10 am Saturday until the time of the memorial service at 11 am. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in New Lothrop.
