Kenneth E. "Ken" Henige Obituary
HENIGE, Kenneth E. – of Maple Grove died Monday afternoon, April 24, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was 89 years of age.
Ken was born in Maple Grove Twp. on August 27, 1933, a son of the late Norbert and Alma (Sutter) Henige. Ken was a resident of Maple Grove Twp. his entire life. He was a Veteran of the US Army, having served during the Korean War. Ken was united in marriage to Virginia E. Schneider on September 29, 1956.
Mr. Henige had worked at GM Metal Fab for 34 years before retiring in 1989 and was a member of UAW Local 659. He was a lifetime member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Maple Grove. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Christopher Council #2943 and the New Lothrop V.F.W. Post 6579. He had served on the St. Michael’s School Board and volunteered at the Knights of Columbus fish fries and the New Lothrop V.F.W. Sunday breakfasts. He was a Past President of the New Lothrop Athletic Association and was involved in many sporting activities. In his spare time, Ken enjoyed working with his hands on woodworking and carpentry projects.
He is survived by his beloved wife of over 66 years, Virginia; their children, Denny (Dianne) Henige, Colleen (Dale) Bitterman, and Steve (Connie) Henige; grandchildren, Kristen Ochomogo, Todd (Rose) Henige, Caitlin (Casey Jacobs) Henige, Chaise (Joe) Jamick, Macie Henige, Sutter Bitterman, and Delaynee Bitterman; great-grandchildren, Ian, Luna, and Arlo Ochomogo and Lilly Wadham; his siblings, Kate Beckman, Roberta Henige, Dave (Josephine) Henige, Bernice (JR) Loeblein, Vicky Henige, George (Norene) Henige, Dianne (Dave) Kovicak, Matt (Karen) Henige, and Ralph (Pat) Henige; many nieces and nephews; and other loving family and friends. Ken was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Robert, Duane, and John Henige; and brother-in-law, Frank Beckman.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday, April 28, 2023, at St. Michael Catholic Church of Maple Grove, 17994 Lincoln Road, New Lothrop with Fr. John Cotter officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at St. Michael Cemetery in Maple Grove. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Thursday at Misiuk Funeral Home with a Vigil Service to be held at 7 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus Rosary Service to follow at 8 p.m. There will be visitation on Friday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass.
