Karen E. Barker of Montrose, age 84, went to be with her Savior on Saturday, May 29, 2021 at Cranberry Park.
Karen was born in Mount Clemens, MI on May 21, 1937, a daughter of the late Reinold and Grace (Brandt) Yeager. Karen graduated from Wheaton College in Wheaton, IL. Later, she received her Masters Degree in Education. She was united in marriage to Keith W. Barker on August 29, 1959.
Mrs. Barker was a teacher at Montrose Community Schools for over 23 years. She started her teaching in Montrose in 1973 and retired in 1996. She was a member of Montrose Baptist Church and taught Children’s Church. She was also a member of Gideons and a Lay Representative for Wycliffe Bible Translators. Karen enjoyed sewing, her great grandchildren, and being with family and friends.
Surviving are her daughter, Kim (Dave) Wilson of Montrose; son, Keith (Bonnie) Barker of Babson Park, FL; grandchildren: Jordan (Elizabeth) Barker, Kyle Barker, Zack (Chelsea) Barker, Spencer Wilson, Izzy Barker and Lorna Pinell; great-grandchildren: Avry, Addilyn, Ambry and Brooks; sisters, Judy (George) Paulson of White Lake, Kathy (Tom) Eley of Beverly Hills, MI, and Marti (Kurt) Retzlaff of Waterford; brother-in-law, Gordon (Janet) Barker of Rogers, AR; many nieces and nephews; and other extended family and dear friends. Karen was preceded in death by her parents and beloved husband, Keith “Skitch” Barker
A celebration of her life will be held at noon Saturday, June 12, 2021, at Montrose Baptist Church, 300 E. State Street in Montrose. Pastor Shane Miller will officiate. Greeting the family will be at the church from 10:00 am Saturday until the time of the service. Inurnment with her husband will be later at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly.
