Joanne Lorraine Hoshal of Oakley, age 92, passed away Monday, September 27, 2021, at Chesaning Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Owosso on June 22, 1929, the daughter of Edward J. and Jane (McCullough) Whymer. Joanne graduated from Owosso High School in the Class of 1947. Later, she graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education and Master’s Clinical Degree in Speech Pathology. She was united in marriage to Ronald G. Hoshal in Owosso on December 19, 1970.
Joanne worked for 33 years for the Shiawassee Intermediate School District as a Special Needs Teacher and Speech Therapist. She was a member of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church of Chesaning and a member of several professional organizations for Speech Therapists. All of her life, Joanne loved Quarter horses, which she bred and showed. She was a breeder of AKC German Shepherds that she showed. She was also a breeder of AKC of Cardigan Corgi and Pembrook Corgi dogs that she showed.
Joanne is survived by her beloved husband of over 50 years, Ron; their son, CJ (Denise) Beck of Essexville; and three grandchildren, Kiefer, Lola, and Noah. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, October 2, 2021, at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 133 Commercial Street, Chesaning. Pastor Paul Tessmer will officiate. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, Oakley. Visitation will be Saturday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until time of the service.
