Jerry Birchmeier Obituary

Jerry Allan Birchmeier born Dec 27, 1963 died April 27, 2020.

After a courageous battle with cancer, Jerry passed away peacefully surrounded by his family as the sun rose Monday morning April 27, 2020.

Jerry was the fifth of seven children born to Leo and Mary (Sumbera) Birchmeier, and resided his entire life in Maple Grove, Michigan. He married his high school sweetheart, Barb Ebenhoeh, on December 30, 1983. Jerry was a man that could do anything he put his mind to. He started his work career at Hehr International in Chesaning and then took his skills to Georgia-Pacific where he worked his way up to Plant Manager. Jerry was a tireless worker, who was loyal and dedicated to getting it done, but mostly getting it done right. After leaving Georgia Pacific, Jerry worked at Covenant Healthcare where he made a positive contribution to the DME and made many friends.  He was a skilled builder and you can still find many of his hand crafted gazebos throughout mid-Michigan. Jerry truly loved the land and enjoyed being called a farmer. Tractor and farm shows on TV helped take his mind away from the horrible cancer taking over his body. His last project was designing and helping build his and Barb’s dream home on the home farm back on the stone ridge with his brother Fred by his side.

Jerry so loved his family. He fought to stay here on earth as long as he could to soak in every second he could spend with his children, their spouses, and grandchildren.

Those missing him already are his wife, Barb, five children and thirteen grandchildren, Jerry (JR) and Tara Birchmeier, Samantha her husband Andy Bonner and children, ClairaBelle, Hunter, Saydie, Sawyer, and Talia, Bobbie and her husband Matt Bishop and children, Bronson, Payton, Hudson, and Emerson, Danielle and her husband Steve Thiede and children, Emma, Porter, and Weston, Dalton and fiancé Hannah Sakofske, and son Alexander.

Also mourning his loss are his mother, Mary Birchmeier, siblings Deb and her husband Jack Wenzlick, Fred and his wife LeAnn Birchmeier, Dian and her husband Bill Satkowiak, Lori and her husband Jack Rose, Jack and his wife Ronda Birchmeier, Connie and her husband Scott Ruddy; as well as his in-laws, Howard and Denise Ebenhoeh, Ron Ebenhoeh, Tim and Linda Ebenhoeh, Julie Leggett, and Carol Wirgau.  All 34 nieces and nephews were special to Jerry and will miss him so much. He is also survived by hundreds of cousins.

Jerry was predeceased by his father, Leo Birchmeier, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Howard and Bonnie Ebenhoeh, and brothers-in-law, Greg Wirgau and Will Marston.

Visitation for Jerry will take place at Misiuk Funeral Home starting Thursday at 1pm following all COVID executive orders. Jerry was a lifelong member of St. Michael's Church Maple Grove where he received all his sacraments. A graveside service will take place Friday at St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery. Barb’s cousin, Father Joe Krupp, will officiate.

Jerry's family would like to thank Covenant VNA hospice and DME for extraordinary care he received. He is also grateful to Doctor Taj and Doctor Mills for providing excellent personal care.
