James Frelitz Obituary

Frelitz, James – of Oakley, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones Friday, March 28, 2025, at his residence. He was 78 years of age.

Jim was born January 16, 1947, in Owosso to the late LaVerne “Woody” and Lucille (Jordan) Frelitz. He was raised in Chesaning moving to Oakley in 1975. He was united in marriage to Jacqueline Lorencz on September 13, 1969. Mr. Frelitz retired in 2007 from Saginaw Steering Gear with 39 years seniority. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church and the former St. Michaels Catholic Church in Oakley, Knights of Columbus St. Christopher Council #2943 and the UAW Local 699. Jim was an active volunteer for the Oakley/Brady Fired Department as Lt. and founding member of Station #2. He was active in the Oakley Village Council, and helped initiate the wastewater treatment plant in Oakley. Jim collected and sold antiques for over 40 years with his wife, loved gardening, baking, cooking, always trying new recipes, enjoyed reading, playing cards but especially being with family and the family gatherings.

Surviving are: wife, Jackie; children: Erica (Mike) Matsumiya of Chesaning, Andrew Frelitz of KY, Tyler Frelitz of Oakley; grandchildren: Devyn (Josh) Curl of Grand Blanc, Cameron Matsumiya (Autumn Brown) of Ypsilanti, Zachary Matsumiya of Lake Orion; great grandchildren: Desmond Curl and Juniper Curl of Grand Blanc; siblings: Janice Frelitz (Kathy Dudek) of Chesaning, Jeff Frelitz of Saginaw, Jill (Mark) Jones of CA, John (Susan) Frelitz of Byron Center, MI; many nieces, nephews and other loving family and friends. He was also preceded by: a stillborn brother, Jacob Frelitz; and a sister-in-law, Debra Frelitz.

A memorial mass will be held 11 am Thursday, April 10, 2025, at St. Peter Catholic Church, 404 S. Wood St. in Chesaning. Fr. Andrzej Boroch officiating. Visitation will be at the church that day from 10 am until time of mass at 11 am. Memorials in his name may be in the form of planting a tree through the Arbor Day Foundation or the Misiuk Funeral Home website.
