Irene M. (Major) Ruediger

Irene Marguerite Ruediger, age 89, of Saint Charles, passed away Sunday evening, March 28, 2021, at Covenant Hospital in Saginaw.

The daughter of Samuel and Marian (Cox) Major, Irene was born August 10, 1931, in Ovid, Michigan.  She graduated from Elsie High School in 1949.  She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith.  She married Marcus Ruediger November 15, 1949  at St. John Lutheran Church in Marion Township.  They moved to Brant and raised five children.  Irene worked  at Community State Bank, retiring as head teller after thirty years.  After retirement they moved to their cottage on Derby Lake, Stanton. She and Marc enjoyed traveling and camping, and she loved being surrounded by her large family.  She and Marcus were married for 35 years before he passed away June 17, 1985.

Irene is survived by her daughters, Paula (Harold) Cooper and Lorraine (Ken) Goward of St. Charles, Deborah Bunker of Petoskey, and her son, David (Pamela) Ruediger, Parson, WV.  She leaves 18 grandchildren, 6 step-grandchildren, 49 great grandchildren, 14 step-great grandchildren, her brother-in-law, Paul (Loetta) Ruediger, and Charlotte Swanson, many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Marcus, daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Mearl Hopkins, Jr., and her sister, Amy Wadsworth.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, 16070 W. Brady Rd. in Oakley. Burial to follow in Brant Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church from 10:00 a.m. Thursday until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m.  Memorials may be made in Irene’s memory to Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church. 

The family would like to thank Union Court Assisted Living for the wonderful care Irene received these past four years.
