In Loving Memory of Frederick Carl Gregory
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Frederick Carl Gregory, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. Fred, a lifelong resident of Chesaning, passed away peacefully at his residence on Sunday, November 24, 2024, at the age of 89, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family.
Born on August 2, 1935, in Chesaning to Carl and Sue (Ochodnicky) Gregory, Fred graduated from Chesaning Union High School in 1954. June 21, 1958, Fred married Janet Bellenbaum, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and family. He proudly served in the National Guard for eight years.
Fred's dedication and skill as a butcher spanned over three decades, first at Eberhards in Owosso and later in Clio, until his retirement in 1995. A man of many passions, Fred found joy in hunting, fishing, trapping, and gardening, where he could often be found tending his beloved plants from dawn to dusk. He was also an avid fan of Western movies, which brought him great enjoyment.
Fred's love for his community was evident through his involvement with Trinity United Methodist Church and the Chesaning Senior Softball League. He was a devoted family man and the proud patriarch of three children: Michael (Deborah) Gregory of St. Joseph, Marsha Gregory of Lakeview, and Mark (Dawn) Gregory of Chesaning. He was the cherished grandfather of Matthew Gregory, Kristin (Jeffrey) Morgan, Alyssa (Eric) Withun, Heather Gregory, and Jeff Gregory, and the great-grandfather of Evelyn Morgan.
Fred is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Janet; his children and grandchildren; his sister, Jeannie Gregory of Chesaning; sisters-in-law Becky Gregory and Jean Gregory, both of Chesaning; as well as many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Don and Norman Gregory; and nephew William Gregory.
Fred’s legacy is one of love, dedication, and a life well-lived. He taught those around him the value of hard work, the beauty of nature, and the importance of family. His steadfast presence, wisdom, and laughter will forever echo in the memories of those fortunate enough to know him.
Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1629 West Brady Road (M-57), Chesaning.
