Frank J. Lycka Obituary

Frank J. Lycka, of Chesaning, age 84, passed into heaven Thursday, June 12, 2025, in Hospice care at Memorial Healthcare of Owosso. Frank was born at home in Chesaning on March 20, 1941, to Bohmul and Caroline (Kovalik) Lycka. As a 1959 graduate of Chesaning High School, he always looked forward to reunions with his classmates and friends. Frank was an MP in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1962. This took him across the United States as well as Korea. He was a proud member of the Chesaning American Legion Post #212. He retired from General Motors in Flint where he was a member of the 1986 Chevy V8 Engine Plant championship softball team.

Frank excelled as a high school athlete in all team sports. Being invited to take part in the veterans’ walk across the CHS football field at the Chesaning Military Classic was a real thrill for him. His love of basketball, football and baseball stayed with him always! He enjoyed making charts of college and professional team schedules that he would laminate and pass out to everyone he knew. He was a huge fan of the U of M Maize & Blue, but it would be very hard to name a team of which he had no interest!

Frank’s favorite pastime was without a doubt, traveling to spend time visiting with family and friends. He had a caring heart, always looking in on others, and rarely stopped by empty handed.

Frank is survived by his sister Marion Pirochta Weigold of Chesaning along with many family members and loving friends. He was predeceased by his dear companion Lois Milwrick, brother Richard Lycka, brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Marise Lycka, sister and brother-in-law, Virginia and Dick Hines, brothers-in-law, Bert Pirochta, Robert Weigold, nephew Nic Weigold and niece Tammy Pirochta Bennett.
