Frances Elizabeth Young Obituary

Frances Elizabeth (Kryzanowski) Young, age 83, of Chesaning, Michigan passed away peacefully on April 21, 2026, surrounded by family. Born in Caro, Michigan on April 10, 1943, Frances “Fran” was the daughter of the late Anthony and Ruby (Behrens) Kryzanowski. She was a deeply kind, caring, and selfless woman whose life radiated love and light. Known for her joyful spirit and unforgettable laugh, she loved her family profoundly, served her community steadfastly, and leaves behind the example of a life beautifully lived.

Fran was raised on a farm in Caro, a childhood she remembered with great fondness throughout her life. Her family relocated to Dyer, Indiana where she graduated high school in 1961. That summer she met her true love, Jim, in a chance encounter at the Blue Top Restaurant in Highland, Indiana, a drive-in that still exists today. Five months later, they were married, beginning a devoted and loving union that would last 64 years. Fran and Jim eventually made their home in Chesaning, where they raised their four children.

Fran was a faithful Catholic whose love of God and her church was the cornerstone of her life. Her greatest passion was always her family and children, though she also found great joy in painting and, during the 1980s, led popular paint classes from her home. She earned her associates degree from Delta College, where she was inducted into the academic honor society Phi Theta Kappa, and later worked as a medical secretary.  Yet the work closest to her heart was her volunteer service. She gave generously of her time for many years through the Altar Society of her Catholic church, organized countless funeral luncheons, served with dedication on the Chesaning Historical Society, and contributed her time and energy to the Task Force for local government in Chesaning, just to name a few.

Fran and Jim enjoyed their trips around the country to visit family and friends, especially their annual get-together with Dyer Indiana High School friends. In their later years, they also enjoyed their shorter trips in Michigan to stay a night or two in many of the grand old mansions that had been repurposed as Bed & Breakfast Inns, their visits to Mackinaw Island, and attending plays at the Purple Rose Theatre in Chelsea.

Fran had an extraordinary spirit—welcoming, warm, loving, and full of life. She always had a kind word to offer and made people feel loved and valued in her presence. Her vibrant, unforgettable laugh could light up a room and make everyone around her smile. She cherished her Polish and German heritage, and every holiday found her in the kitchen handmaking kolache and pierogi for those she loved.

In addition to her parents, Fran was preceded in death by her sisters Ruby Ann, Mary (Ken) Tinkle and infant brother Anthony Jr. Fran is survived by her beloved husband, Jim; two sons James Dean Jr. (Cindy) and John; two daughters, Alyson and Amy; two grandchildren, Shelby (Kevin) Maurer and James Dean III; two great-grandchildren, Adalyn and Averie; her brother, Casey Kryzanowski; and many cousins, nephews, and nieces. Fran also had many dear friends in Chesaning and also in the Caro and Vassar Michigan area that she considered family.

Her presence in the lives of her family and friends was immeasurable. She will be deeply missed and never forgotten.
