Derek Scott Obituary
Derek Scott of St. Charles Twp. died Sunday, May 5, 2024, at his home surrounded in the love of his family. He was 55 years of age.
Derek was born in Owosso on March 28, 1969, a son of Thomas W. and Ruth A. (Zervan) Scott. Derek was a graduate of Chesaning High School. He had worked as a Mason for Maday Construction for several years prior to his accident.
In 1991, Derek suffered a paralyzing accident, but by his sheer willpower and determination, he found he could manage almost anything. He planned and built his own home. He enjoyed gardening and the outdoors. He was very fussy and meticulous in what he did, especially taking care of his lawn and home. He went hunting and shot his own gun and crossbow. In fact, he shot his first deer with a crossbow after the accident. He loved working on his cars, trucks, and 4-wheel drive vehicles and also loved driving his snowmobile and Argo. His pride and joy was his 1969 Chevelle that took him 20 years to restore. He was a drummer and still enjoyed using his drumsticks.
Derek is survived by his mother, Ruth Scott of Burt; his brother, Doug Scott of St. Charles; his canine buddy, Winchester; aunts and uncles, Diane Brill of Burt, Jerry and Marie Zervan of Burt, Michelle and Brian Palko of Bridgeport, and Agnes Zervan of Burt; his caregiver, Wendy; many cousins; and other loving family and many friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Scott.
