David Paul Tithof "Beaver" Obituary

Tithof, David Paul “Beaver” - (1950-2023) - passed into the ever-after on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, surrounded by loving family members at Covenant ICU.

David was born to parents Paul and Barbara (Phillps) Tithof on April 28, 1950.  He was a 1968 graduate from Chesaning Union High School and has been a lifelong resident of Chesaning.
Beav married the love of his life, Kathleen Larner, on May 20, 1972.  Together they raised a son, Anthony (Tony) and daughter, Christl. Most family, friends and community members know David as Beaver. Often people thought that Beaver was his first name. An event in second grade with his cousin Jack Alden led to this nickname that stuck with him for a lifetime. Beav’s love for football and baseball (and the Detroit Lions and Tigers) was shared with the community through his passion to coach Little League and Youth Football. He also loved League bowling, with his friends, on the same team for 45 years.  He was a people person who just “lit up” in group settings.  Fishing, gardening and card playing were favorite pastimes. Several people in the community, and beyond, also know Beav as the “Candy Man”. He was famous for his Peanut Brittle and Toffees sold during the Christmas Walk Craft Bazaar at Our Lady for several years. Dave was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, United Methodist Men, and Chesaning Conservation Club. Later in life Beav was blessed with three grandchildren who were his pride and joy.  He shared his love of fishing with them and they all loved to “help” with making (sampling) candy.

Dave is survived by: his loving wife Kathy (Larner) Tithof; son Anthony Tithof and grandson Bennett of Chesaning; and daughter Christl (Joe) Zachar, grandson Cameron and granddaughter Jolyn of Chesaning. Dave is also survived by two sisters: LouAnn Tithof of El Paso, Texas and Diane Ostrander (partner Lucy Negretti) of Hope, Michigan; brothers and sisters in-law: Douglas and Debra Larner of Gladwin, MI, Curtis and Yvonne Larner of Jackson, MI, Carol and James Young of North Lake, MI and Charles and Debrah Larner of Ludington, MI, Randy Cates of Chesaning, MI, Mary Lou TIthof, and many loving and loved nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Barbara Tithof; his brother Dennis Tithof; sisters Karen Tithof and Julie Cates. He was also preceded in death by his mother and father in-law; George and Marilyn Larner.

A celebration of David’s life will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1629 West Brady Road (M-57), Chesaning.  Rev.
