David D. Ketchum Obituary

David D. Ketchum of Chesaning passed away Monday, January 13, 2020 at his home.  He was 67 years of age.

Dave was born in Owosso on May 8, 1952 and was a lifelong Chesaning resident.  He graduated from Chesaning Union High School in the Class of 1970, and then attended trade school for Auto Body Repair at Delta College.  Dave worked for Draper Chevrolet in Saginaw just out of trade school and later began working for LaClair Sales, where he worked for 40 years.  He loved his job.

Dave loved everything cars.  He always had muscle cars, and raced at Tri-City Dragway in the early 70's.  He loved going to car shows and would check the summer schedule early on to be sure he didn't miss any.  He was the National Winner in the 1985-86 Chevrolet Performance Challenge Competition in the Body Paint category and won the use of an IROC Z28 for a year.

When he was younger, David loved snowmobiling.  In later years, he didn't really like winter too much, but it did keep him busy at work.  He enjoyed tinkering on his John Deere lawn tractors.

Dave married Janine Kunik Himm on June 18, 1993.  Together with his sister, Suzanne, and her husband, Paul, they enjoyed traveling around the country to NASCAR races and the four of them made many special memories together.

Dave loved his family and his special “therapy” kitty, Buddy.  He is survived by his wife, Janine; stepson, Joel Himm; grandsons. Kieran, Brody and Landon Himm; sisters, Nancy (Ken) Turnwald and Suzanne (Paul) Styler; brother, Robert Ketchum; niece, Jennifer (Jim) Coon; and other loving family and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Toby and Rosalie Ketchum.

Cremation has taken place.  As he didn't particularly like winter, a Celebration of Dave's Life for family and friends will be on the first day of Spring, Thursday, March 19, 2020, from 4-8 p.m. at Misiuk Funeral Home, 202 South Front Street, Chesaning.
