Bernadine Brady Obituary

Bernadine (Harris) Brady, of Chesaning, was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother during her incredible 93 years of life.  She passed away peacefully on December 22, 2022 at Memorial Hospital in Owosso, Michigan.

Bernie had a long and full life.  She was born on the family farm in Chesaning, on July 25, 1929, to her loving parents, Mary Eliza (Nixon) and Laurence Harris.  Her father was a farmer and her mother was a homemaker.  Bernie had two older siblings, Elda (Oesterreicher) and Neil Harris.  For grade school, Bernie attended country school in Brady Township.  She graduated from Chesaning High School in June 1946, when she was 16 years old.

She moved to Saginaw after graduating and attended beauty school.  She then moved to Owosso and worked at an office supply store.  While working, she lived with a friend who introduced her to the love of her life, Charles “Ed” Brady, while he was on leave from the Air Force in 1952.  After writing letters back and forth, they were married months later on March 21, 1953 at the Methodist Church in Chesaning, Michigan.

Bernie and Ed spent a brief time stationed in Arizona before moving back to Chesaning, where they raised their children Michael, Susan, and Tim.  Bernie worked in the toy department at Ben Franklin for many years.  She was also a dedicated member of the Trinity United Methodist Church.  Bernie and Ed enjoyed retirement at their cottage in Canada during the summer months, and traveling to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina or Gulf Shores, Alabama, in the winter.

Bernie loved to play cards, and you could often find her and Ed playing Hearts or Spades with Neil and Ethel Harris.  Most importantly, she was always available to teach her grandchildren how to play Rummy.   Bernie was a loving and caring person, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.  She enjoyed time with her family and loved to spend time laughing and watching TV.

Bernie was predeceased by her husband, Ed Brady; her parents, Mary Eliza and Laurence Harris; her siblings, Elda (John) Oesterreicher, Neil (Ethel) Harris; and granddaughter, Jamey Dingo.  She is survived by her three children: Michael Brady and his wife, Charlotte, of Chesaning; Susan Dingo of Chesaning; and Tim Brady and his wife, Diane, of Grand Rapids.  She leaves behind her grandchildren: Becki (Doug) Matiska, Gen (Brian) Dine, Jeff (Jennifer) Erickson, Tia Escamilla, Jon (Stacy) Dingo, Dana (John) Bishop, Heather Weber, Ryan (Jessica) Brady, and Carly (Adam) Munoz; great-grandchildren: Mallory McMacken, Austin Beach, Jason Dine, Julie Dine, Jeffery Erickson Jr., Jaina Erickson, Josh Nietling, AJ Nietling, Derek Nietling, Cody Bowles, Madison Coe, Duncan Coe, Paul Bishop, Eliza Bishop, Lydia Bishop, Riley Weber, Isabelle Brady, Faith Brady, Easton Munoz, and Kinsley Munoz; great-great-grandchildren:  Ariel McMacken, Salem McMacken, and Cameron Coe.  She also leaves behind many other family members and dear friends.

Bernie will be greatly missed, but her family is so grateful for the time they had to spend with her.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1629 Brady St., in Chesaning.  Pastor Janine Plum officiating.  Private burial to follow in Wildwood Cemetery.  Visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m.  Contributions in her memory may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church.  You may light a memorial candle or share a memory at misiukfuneralhome.com .
