AUSTIN, Verabelle G. – formerly of Oakley, died Friday, February 16, 2018 at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 11 am Monday, February 19, 2018 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1629 Brady St. in Chesaning. Pastor Timothy S. Woycik officiating. Burial to follow in Fairfield Twp. Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Misiuk Funeral Home in Chesaning on Sunday from 2-8 pm and at the church on Monday from 10 am until time of services at 11 am. Contributions in her memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
Verabelle was born April 25, 1924 in St. Johns to the late Eddie and Clementina (Vaughan) Carter and was a resident of Owosso for over 40 years moving to Oakley in 1974. She married Andrew J. Austin on November 14, 1941. He preceded her in death on May 14, 2004. She was a member of the Navy Mothers Club, helped with the Girl Scouts, member of TOPS for many years and the Uno Club. She enjoyed playing cards, word search, crochet and sewing.
Surviving are: children: David (Patricia) Austin of Owosso, Melvin (Constance) Austin of Chesaning, Kay (Kenneth) Reynolds of Owosso, Raymond (Linda) Austin of Ocala, FL, Teresa Austin of E. Lansing, Robbin Mathers of Owosso, Mark Austin of Oakley; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Glen Carter of OH; sisters: Bonnie (Wayne) Small of MO, Virginia Wasinger of MO, Dawn Shilvers of SC; many nieces and nephews; and her best friend, Florence Coleman of Chesaning. She was also preceded in death by: daughter, Treva Austin in 1942, grandson, David Joseph Andrew Austin in 2015; brothers and sisters: Harry Carter, Tony Campbell, Harold Carter, Glennwyn Carter, Beverly Harger and Louise Czap.
