A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend was called home to the Lord on Wednesday, September 6, 2017. She passed away at McLaren-Flint at age 86. She was born in Brant Twp. on March 3, 1931, the daughter of Clyde and Beulah (McKay) Thayer. Mary married her best friend and love of her life, James “Jim” Newvine on September 27, 1979, at the Racy Free Methodist Church.
Mary was a homemaker, but she also had worked at Strawsine’s Manufacturing in Corunna, Uncle John’s Cider Mill in St. Johns, and at a potato farm. She had a love for all kinds of animals, but mostly horses. She enjoyed going to church and the Senior Center and riding her Harley. She loved spending time with her family.
Mrs. Newvine is survived by her husband, Jim; her son, Terry (Norma) Witherell of Burt; her daughters, Pamela Stevens, Dawn Hawes (Aaron), and Janet Stevens (Tim), all of Chesaning; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; her brothers, Gail Thayer and Frank (Jean) Gross of Chesaning; a sister-in-law, Rose; many nieces and nephews; and other loving family and friends. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; nieces and nephews; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 9, 2017, at the Misiuk Funeral Home of Chesaning. Rev. Dr. John R. Miller will officiate. Burial will be later at the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday and from 10:00 a.m. Saturday until time of the funeral service at the Misiuk Funeral Home of Chesaning.
If desired, charitable donations given in memory of Mary may be made to the Compassionate Ministry at the Oakley Community Church.
