Mary Elizabeth Willis of Durand, age 67, passed away Monday afternoon, May 6, 2019, at Hospice House of Shiawassee County.

Mary was born November 19, 1952, in Detroit to the late Robert and Elsie (Santinelli) Willis and had resided in Durand since 1985. She earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Education and Counseling from Sienna Heights College. She had been employed by several schools and before working for Corunna Public Schools for eight years. Later, Mary had a private practice as a counselor for 30 years. She had attended First Baptist Church of Durand for many years. Mary enjoyed classical and Jazz music, the opera, traveling and enjoyed being a part of people’s lives.

Surviving are a sister, Margaret Willis of Novi, MI; and many special friends who were like family to her.

Private burial was held at Holy Sepulcher Catholic Cemetery in Southfield, Michigan. A Celebration of Mary’s Life service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 11, 2019, at First Baptist Church of Durand, 804 W. Main Street, Durand, with Pastor Nick Boeke officiating. Visitation will be at the church Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of the service. Charitable memorial donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Hospice House of Shiawassee County, or First Baptist Church of Durand. You may light a memorial candle or share a memory at misiukfuneralhome.com.
