Passed away Wednesday afternoon, June 21, 2017, at McLaren Flint at age 80. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 24, 2017, at St. Michael Catholic Church of Maple Grove, 17994 Lincoln Road, New Lothrop. Fr. Joseph Miller will officiate. Cremation will follow the Mass. A private burial with military honors at the St. Michael Catholic Cemetery will be later. Visitation will be from 2:00-9:00 p.m. Friday at the Misiuk Funeral Home of Chesaning. A Wake Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. His family will be present at the church to welcome friends from 10:00 a.m. Saturday until time of the Mass.
Vern was born in Maple Grove Twp. on May 7, 1937, the son of Leonard G. and Hilda M. (Wendling) Emmendorfer. Vern married Marlene A. Gilles at the St. Michael Catholic Church of Maple Grove on August 1, 1964. She preceded him in death on December 2, 2009.
Vern was a US Army Veteran. He was a GM retiree, having worked for over 30 years, and he was member of U.A.W. Local 599. Vern was a longtime member of St. Michael Catholic Church. He was a member of the Maple Grove and the Montrose Senior Centers. He enjoying playing cards with friends and family, especially Euchre and Texas Holdem, and also playing the penny slot machines at the casino. He also played in the Sr. Circuit Softball 55+ League for over 20 years as a Pitcher. Vern collected nutcrackers and worked a side job as a member of a flea market business for over 40 years.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Barbara Emmendorfer of Chesaning, Renee (Gary) Cooper of Owosso, and Teresa (John) Forbes of Lennon; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Forbes; his sisters, Mary Emmendorfer, Rose Houlihan, Delores Kohagen, Carol Sharko, and Diane Stikeleather; a brother, Gerald (Linda) Emmendorfer; many nieces and nephews; and other loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife of 45 years, Marlene; an infant grandchild, Barbara Renee Forbes; and a brother, Robert Emmendorfer.
