President Asplund was my mission president in Finland 1964 to1966... I remember him very well.. He was a gifted man with a sweet spirt... Always a fun smile on his face..He and Sister Patty asked me to be the mission secretary and consequently I lived at the mission home with them. Paradise will now have a fantastic missionary... It was my honor to know President Asplund ...R.I.P...

My sincere condolence to the Malcolm family.  I was truly saddened to hear of his passing.  About a week before I graduated from CHS in 1954 Mr Malcolm keep me after class to chew me out for acting up in class.  After giving me a well deserved chewing out he suprised me by asking me about my future plans.  No other teacher showed interest.  His genuine concern and advice led me to the US Navy and my life as it is today. I am forever gratful for his compasion and guidence. It is my prayer that God will judge him with the same compassion that he showed in life.

The police were escorting me from Chesaning Union High School in 1959 when asst. principal John Malcolm appeared and stated, "no one is taking this young man from my school while I''m in charge".  John helped turn my life around.  I have had a successful life in higher education mathematics both teaching and publishing.  I have John Malcolm to thank for a part of my success.

I first met John Malcolm when he hired me for my 1st teaching position for the Fall of 1970.  He mentored all of us new hires, guiding us through the many potential problems.  He was always kind, supportive and helpful as we negotiated the teaching path.  I left Chesaning in 1975 and started a different career.  Twenty six years later, I returned to teaching and he was still the kind, caring gentleman by providing a reference for me.  I was deeply saddened to hear of his death.  What a tremendous legacy he has provided to the many whose lives he has touched...students, teachers and friends.  My sincere sympaty to the family in their loss.
