Barbara Kay Gewirtz passed away at home surrounded by family on September 13, 2014. The daughter of the late Arthur and Ann Gewirtz, Barb was born on February 18, 1954 in Saginaw MI. She grew up in Chesaning MI and received her Bachelor of Arts from Saginaw Valley State University. She was employed by the City of Flint as an accountant for 17 years before retiring. Always a hard worker, Barb returned to work for the Genesee County Comptroller Office where she made many dear friends.

Barb made her home in St. Charles, MI with long time partner, Tom Sellers. Her home was a favorite gathering place for family dinners on Sunday evenings and holidays. She enjoyed traveling and especially cherished the many trips she took with her brothers and sisters to the Outer Banks, North Carolina. Barb loved to stay active; she walked daily with her sister, Mary Jo and often took her young nieces and nephews on the weekend for new adventures.  She enjoyed gardening, bird watching, and cheering for University of Michigan sports teams. Above all else, Barb loved her family. She will be remembered for her generosity, kindness, wisdom, and sense of humor.

Barb is survived by her significant other Tom Sellers, siblings Fred (Elaine) Gewirtz of Sarasota, FL, Richard (Lori) Gewirtz of Fanwood, NJ,  Joseph (Diane) Gewirtz, Mary Jo (Chris) Wood, Debra (Marvin) Henige, and Sandra Gewirtz of Chesaning MI, as well as 12 nieces/nephews and 14 grand-nieces/nephews.  She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Bernard Gewirtz and sister, Patricia Peters.

A memorial service will be held at 9:30 am on Saturday September 20 at St Peter’s Parish in Chesaning, MI. Family will welcome guests starting at 8:30 am.  A visitation will also occur at Misiuk Funeral Home on Friday September 19 from 5-8pm.  Donations may be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network or a charity of choice.
