Went home to God on May 26, 2016, following a five year struggle with cancer. He was born to George and Mildred Bell in Owosso, MI on July 1, 1937. His formative years were spent in Chesaning, MI where he met the love of his life, Dorothy Neumann. They were wed on July 17, 1957. He earned a Bachelor's Degree from Central Michigan University and earned a Master’s Degree from University of Michigan. Teaching was his passion and for 34 years he served the students of the Walled Lake School District as a teacher and Trade & Industrial Co-op Coordinator. His teaching was based on first-hand experience as he excelled at roofing, laying concrete, masonry, plumbing, drywall and electrical work to name a few of his many skills. He was an inspiration to those who knew him and his sons are especially grateful for the work ethic and knowledge he instilled in them.
He enjoyed the fruits of his labor by developing an interest in sailing. Wayne and Dorothy sailed extensively on the Great Lakes and the Caribbean and he earned a full certificate from the Power Squadron.
Following his retirement in 1991, Wayne and Dorothy spent their summers in Boyne City, MI and winters in Leesburg, FL. He and Dorothy travelled to all 50 states and throughout Europe. He continued his home improvements projects, but also enjoyed golfing, bridge and became an expert in working with stained glass. They moved to Leesburg full-time in 1995 and to Lakeview Terrace in Altoona, FL in 2014. He especially enjoyed supporting his sons and granddaughters in their endeavors and nothing pleased him more than a good conversation. He made full use of the life that God had given him and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Dorothy; his brother, David; his sons, Roger (Ann) of Austin, TX and Brian (Amanda) of Libby, MT; and beloved granddaughters, Morgan, Erin and Devyn Bell. A Funeral Mass was held at Saint Mary's Catholic Church in Eustis, FL on at 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 30, 2016.
Graveside services will be held at Noon, Thursday, August 4, 2016, at the Resurrection Cemetery in Chesaning Township.
