Passed away Sunday morning, September 24, 2017, age 54, at The Willows of East Lansing.  Ken's Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 30, 2017, at St. Peter Parish Catholic Church, 404 S. Wood Street, Chesaning.  A funeral luncheon will immediately follow the Mass at the St. Peter Parish Church Hall.  His family will be present at the church to greet friends from Noon Saturday until time of the Mass.
 
Kenneth was born in Owosso on November 23, 1962, the son of John F. and Elaine (Harris) Schaefer.  He attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help School and graduated from Chesaning High School, where he participated in cross country and track.  He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Information Technology from Davenport University.  He worked for the State of Michigan for 20 years as a Solution Architect and Software Developer before retiring on April 1, 2017. He received many awards throughout his working carreer.
 
He married Michele Chandler, his loving, dedicated, and committed soul mate.  They supported each other through their adverse health conditions.
 
Ken loved to golf and was a sports fanatic.  On one special occasion, he was visited by Tom Izzo and personally met the entire M.S.U. basketball team.
 
Those left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Michele; his daughter, Megan Chandler; his mother, Elaine Schaefer; his brother and six sisters: Mary Schaefer, Gladwin, Linda Schaefer, Grand Rapids, Kathy (Rob) Swisher, Rockford, Lori (James) Serbus, Owosso, Teresa Grinnell, Fairview, TN., Jeri (Jerald) Canze, Midland, Joseph (Heather) Schaefer, Swartz Creek. 20 nieces and nephews, 20 great nieces and nephews, loving aunts, uncles and cousins.  His sisters in law and brothers in law: Laura (Bill) Stender, Missy (Glenn) Scher. Cherished niece and nephew, Lily Stender and Alex Scher. Also numerous friends. He was preceded in death by his father, John F. Schaefer and brother in law Robert Grinnell.
 
A special thank you to Ken's wonderful and supportive friends and co workers that have been with him all the way, through grade school and throughout his life.
He loved his cats Felix and Jaspurr.
 
Memorial contributions may be made to Ken’s family for his daughter’s college fund,  the Capitol Area Humane Society (7095 West Grand River Avenue, Lansing, MI 48906), or The Horticulture Garden at MSU (hrt.msu.edu).
